Viña San Esteban was founded by José Vicente in 1974. After growing wine grapes for 20 years, José and his son Horacio decided to replant the vineyards and build a modern winery, in order to complete the cycle and produce high-quality wines in the Aconcagua Valley.
With vast knowledge of both vineyards and winemaking, Horacio Vicente studied Oenology at the University of Bordeaux and worked in France – Château Mouton Rothschild and Mouton Cadet – and in the United States, in one of the first boutique vineyards in California -Chalone Vineyards-. These experiences undoubtedly favoured Viña San Esteban’s oenological excellence and have resulted in numerous international awards.
The Aconcagua Valley’s unique combination of soil, light, and water also plays an important role in the success of Viña San Esteban. The Upper Aconcagua terroirs are well-suited to wine growing, producing a wide variety of high-quality grapes. The In Situ family of wines, in particular, was created to showcase these terroirs as a premier winemaking region of Chile.
Today, Horacio Vicente makes his home in the Aconcagua Valley, along with his wife and children.
