PAUILLAC, THE CAPITAL OF THE MÉDOC
Pauillac, a port city, considered as the wine capital of the Médoc, is located on the left bank of the Gironde in the South-West of France, between the Saint-Estèphe and Saint-Julien appellations.
The AOC Pauillac, recognized since 1936, brings together 37 wine estates including 18 Grands Crus Classés which represent 85% of production, including 3 Premiers Grands Crus Classés (Châteaux Lafite-Rothschild, Latour and Mouton-Rothschild), but also Crus Bourgeois and Craftsmen.
The vineyard is separated in two by the Gahet stream: to the north, at an altitude of 30 meters, is the Pouyalet plateau, and to the south that of Saint-Lambert.
1,200 hectares of vines produce an average of 8 million bottles each year. The Pauillac vineyard represents only 7.5% of the Médoc vineyard.
